Marcus is a Principal Mining Engineer at Enable Advisory with over 18 years’ experience across operational, technical, corporate and mine site roles in Australia. The majority of Marcus’ experience has been in the open cut coal sector, varying from site based short-term mine planning through to life of asset and strategic mine planning. Having worked across this full mine-planning spectrum, Marcus can identify the right work and the right level of detail required for whatever problem is at hand.
Marcus is an experienced mining technical professional (11 years with Peabody Energy, 4 years with Anglo American, 3 years with Whitehaven Coal) and has extensive skills in the open cut coal mining sector. Marcus’ key strength is medium, long term and strategic level mine design and scheduling for sites ranging from small sole truck shovel operations up to complex sites involving multiple draglines, rope shovels, and large excavator fleets.
Marcus has worked across a number of countries; Australia, South Africa and the USA and possesses a high level of proficiency in mine planning packages such as Vulcan, Spry, 3d Dig and XPAC. A particular area of his expertise that has led to sustained cost savings and greater value delivery is dozer push.
His experience includes:
- Open cut coal short, mid, long-term design and scheduling (dig, dump, haulage)
- Feasibility studies – margin ranking, cost estimation, NPV estimation
- Trade-off studies – mining strategy, equipment selection, capital decisions
- Due diligence technical assessments
- Project management
- Underground concept level coal design and scheduling
- Proficient in Vulcan, Spry, 3d dig, XPAC
- Leading, guiding and mentoring of teams
